Voice
My goal with teaching voice is to instruct the student how to breathe properly along with control their instrument. Controlling your instrument comes with breath support. I also would like to develop their ear to hear melodies and harmonies, while working on music that makes their heart happy and will grow their voice. Something that is developed in lessons is confidence. I make sure to establish with each student that lessons are a safe place to make a mistake. Someone won't grow in their craft without a safe space to make mistakes.
Piano
My goal with piano teaching is to not only have the student be able to read music and know how to play the right notes, but to also know the theory behind the music. I started learning music theory when I was little and being a college senior music major, I would have to say I definitely wouldn't be where I am music wise if it weren't for learning how music works at a young age. I believe that it is important to have feeling and musicality when playing, and I want to develop that importance in my students, in a way they understand. For young beginners, I teach out of the Piano Adventure books. For older beginners, we determine what their goals are for playing and go from there. In the first lessons, I usually see where the students are at, how they learn, maturity, etc. and confirm what route we will take at the end.
